4x4 quads for work, not just for weekends

The four-wheel-drive section holds the heaviest and most capable machines in our catalogue: the LINHAI 370 Promax 4x4 and the LINHAI 500 Promax 4x4 with a 492.8 cm³ engine and a top speed around 70 km/h. Unlike a two-wheel-drive quad, these send torque to both axles, so when the rear loses grip in mud or on a wet slope the front keeps pulling. That single difference is what turns a recreational machine into a working one.

What selectable drive actually gives you

Full-time four-wheel drive would wear the transmission on hard surfaces, so these quads let the rider switch: 2x4 for tracks and gravel, 4x4 for mud, snow, sand and steep ground. Add a differential lock and the machine will crawl out of a rut that would strand a lighter quad. In return you accept more weight, a wider turning circle and higher fuel consumption — an honest trade for anyone who tows a trailer, carries feed or works a plot of land.

• Engine capacity. Around 370 cc is enough for a single rider and light towing; 500 cc handles two-up riding and heavy loads.
• Racks and towbar. Front and rear racks plus a hitch decide how much real work the quad can do.
• Cooling. Liquid cooling matters when the machine spends hours at low speed under load.
• Winch and guards. A winch and underbody protection are the two accessories owners add first.
• Tyres. Aggressive mud tyres transform traction off-road and wear quickly on gravel — many owners keep two sets.

Where a 4x4 is more than you need

For trail riding, dunes and forest paths without heavy loads, a lighter machine is usually more fun and easier to handle — the 200–250 cc models in the off-road ATV section cover exactly that use. Younger riders belong on the 125 cc and electric machines in the teenage quad section. Frequently asked questions

How much can a 4x4 quad tow?

Manufacturer figures for this class usually fall between 300 and 500 kg on a trailer, but the limit in practice is the ground rather than the hitch. On a slope or soft soil, plan for well under the rated maximum, and remember that braking with a loaded trailer needs far more distance than the quad alone.

Is 4x4 needed in winter?

On packed snow a two-wheel-drive quad with the right tyres copes. In fresh or wet snow, and on any incline, four-wheel drive is the difference between finishing the job and digging the machine out. If winter use is the main reason for the purchase, choose the larger engine as well — cold, deep snow eats power.
