The step between a child's quad and an adult machine
The teenage ATV section exists because the jump from an 800 W toy to a 200 cc off-road machine is too big to take in one go. Here the range splits neatly in two. Petrol or electric for this age
A 125 cc four-stroke gives a long riding day, an easy refuel and a sound that most teenagers want. It also brings a clutch or a CVT, a fuel system and servicing that someone has to keep up with. A 1000–1500 W electric quad removes all of that and, importantly, keeps a limiter the parent controls — useful while the rider is still learning where the grip runs out. Both types in this class are sized for a rider who can reach the ground and hold the machine up unaided.
- Weight of the rider. A 125 cc quad carries a teenager comfortably; an adult on the same machine will find it short of power on climbs.
- Electric start. Standard across the petrol models here, with a kick-start on several as a backup.
- Wheels. Larger rims smooth out ruts and raise ground clearance, which matters as the riding gets faster.
- Protective gear. A helmet, gloves and boots are not optional at 60–75 km/h, whatever the drivetrain.
- Brakes. Discs on both axles, checked before every ride — a 125 cc quad carries far more speed into a corner than a children's machine.
Before and after this class
Younger or lighter riders should start on the 36–48 V machines in the children's ATV section, all of which have a parental speed limiter. Frequently asked questions
Is 125 cc too much for a first petrol quad?
Not for a teenager of average build, provided the machine has a speed screw or a restricted throttle for the first weeks and the riding starts on open, flat ground. What causes trouble is not the engine size but the surface: gravel and wet grass punish an inexperienced throttle hand far more than power does.
What does 60 V, 1500 W translate to in practice?
Around 45 km/h on level ground and enough torque to climb a grass bank with a teenage rider aboard. It is roughly the performance of a small petrol quad with none of the noise, and it is the highest electric specification we offer before the adult machines.
