Cross motorcycles – built for off-road and the track
Cross (motocross) motorcycles are off-road machines designed for riding on dirt, sand and prepared tracks. A lightweight frame, long-travel suspension, knobby tyres and a strong power-to-weight ratio let them handle jumps, ruts and loose surfaces that a road bike could not take.
What sets a cross bike apart
- Suspension – long travel at both ends absorbs landings and rough terrain.
- Weight – minimal bodywork and no road equipment keep the bike light and agile.
- Engine – tuned for quick throttle response and pulling power out of corners rather than top speed.
How to choose
Match the engine capacity and seat height to the rider: smaller bikes suit children, teenagers and beginners, while full-size machines are meant for experienced riders. Remember that most cross motorcycles are not road-legal and are intended for closed tracks and private land.
For road-going two-wheelers see the full motorcycles section, and for a four-wheeled off-road alternative look at our ATVs. Compare the available models and choose the bike that matches the rider and the terrain.
