Quads in the battery-powered part of the catalogue

This page is the four-wheel entry in our electric transport section, next to scooters, bicycles and cargo tricycles. An electric quad works on exactly the same principle as the rest of them: a motor instead of an engine, a battery instead of a tank, torque from the first turn of the wheel and a maintenance list that ends after brakes, tyres and charging. What four wheels add is stability — which is why electric quads are the class most parents choose for a first machine, and the one that works best on soft, uneven ground: a scooter needs a hard surface, whereas a quad crosses grass, sand and mud without complaint.

Where the models are listed

Because quads are catalogued primarily by rider class, the machines themselves live under ATVs. The complete battery-driven line-up, from the 36 V QMC Renegate 800W to the 60 V, 1500 W ECO Maverick that reaches around 45 km/h, is shown in the electric ATV section. Sized for the youngest riders, with a parental speed limiter and a 25 km/h cap, are the machines in the children's ATV section; the next step up in power and dimensions is the teenage quad section.

• Voltage. 36 V for small children, 48 V for a confident young rider, 60 V for teenagers and light adults.
• Speed limiter. Standard on the children's models and the reason a single quad can serve for several years, rather than being outgrown in one summer.
• Battery chemistry. Lead-acid is cheaper and heavier; lithium is lighter and charges faster.
• Where it can be ridden. These are private-ground machines — gardens, farms, campsites and closed tracks.
• Charging. An ordinary 230 V socket, typically four to eight hours for a full pack.

Petrol as the alternative

Electric wins wherever noise and exhaust are a problem, and wherever the rider benefits from having fewer controls to manage. Petrol still wins on a full working day: a tank is refilled in a minute, and no battery matches that. Frequently asked questions

Is an electric quad powerful enough for an adult?

A 60 V, 1500 W machine carries a light adult on level ground and up gentle slopes at around 45 km/h. For an adult who needs to tow, carry loads or ride heavy terrain all day, a 200–250 cc petrol quad remains the more capable tool.

How should the quad be stored in winter?

Indoors, above freezing, with the battery charged to at least half and topped up every couple of months. A pack left discharged in an unheated garage loses capacity permanently — it is the most common reason an electric quad feels weak in its second season.
