Dualtron, made by the South Korean manufacturer Minimotors, is the name most often mentioned when the conversation turns to high-performance electric scooters. The engineering priorities are the opposite of a commuter machine: heavy alloy frames, dual motors, large battery packs, hydraulic brakes and suspension with real travel. These are scooters you keep in a garage and charge overnight, not ones you fold under a desk.

• Suspension. Real travel front and rear is what keeps the wheels on the ground once the speed rises.

Supply times for this class vary considerably depending on the specification, and battery configuration is usually the part that determines the wait. We will not take payment for a machine before the supplier has confirmed it.

Is a performance scooter practical for city use?

It is fast and stable, but it is also heavy, wide and awkward on stairs or public transport, and it must be ridden within the same speed limits as any other scooter. If your route involves carrying the machine at either end, or storing it above ground level, a lighter model will serve you better every single day of the year.
